What is Coolsculpting?
Zeltiq is a medical device company that develops non-invasive procedures for reducing unwanted fat tissue.  Their approach uses a patented method called “Cryolipolysis” where fat cells are selectively killed by a cooling method leaving the other tissues and surrounding skin unharmed.  

How does the Coolsculpting procedure work?
The Zeltiq procedure is a non-invasive way to reduce fat in targeted problem areas.  The procedure involves applying an applicator to the affected area of the skin.  The device treats individual 4″ by 8″ areas.  The applicator delivers targeted cooling to the selected fat cells.  The fat cells are cooled, resulting in cell death and are removed naturally by the body.  The end result is a reduction in approximately ¼ of the layer of the fat bulge in about two to four months.  The procedure is painless, taking about 60 minutes to complete per area, and patients can relax and read a magazine while experiencing the procedure.

What areas are best treated by Coolsculpting?
Areas best treated by the Zeltiq procedure are areas of the body that are resistant to the traditional fat reduction methods of diet and exercise.  For example, the fat bulges surrounding the hips, back fat, and abdominal area.
